Who We Are
Itapatan/Our Purpose
At SIM, our purpose is to show our children love, guide them to embracing Innu culture, and connect them to the Innu way of life, all on the land of our ancestors.
We are dedicated to leading the way in healing intergenerational trauma, offering a nurturing care approach rooted in the strength and wisdom of Innu cultural values. Through this, we strive to empower our youth and community to grow, heal and thrive together.
Our Commitment
Shushepeshipan Ishpitentamun Mitshuap (SIM Inc.) is a Innu-led, community- based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the children, youth and families of the Innu community in Sheshatshiu, Labrador.
Founded in response to the community’s strong desire to bring Innu children home. SIM is part of the larger Labrador Innu prevention initiative focused on supporting children and youth within their community. Our work is rooted in the belief that children should stay connected to their culture, families and traditions.
SIM offers Innu-based placements for children and youth in care, allowing them to remain close to their heritage and our people. For the Innu children places outside of the community, we provide the opportunity to return home, reconnect with their families and re-establish ties with their community. Through this approach, SIM fosters healing, growth and a deep belonging for our children and youth.
