Grounded in the Innu Care Approach, we integrate Innu culture and values into every aspect of care, helping to nuture the growth and development of each child. Through cultural activities and engagement with community elders, we create a space for children and youth aged 12 and over to connect with their heritage, fostering a strong sense of identifying belonging. Our placement homes meet the standards set by CSSD, ensuring that every child receives the highest quality of care and support.

Programs & Services

We offer a range of programs and services aimed at meeting the diverse needs of children and youth in our care. A key element of our approach is our cultural programming, which fosters community engagement, strengthens relationships and helps children and youth reconnect with Innu culture. Through these programs, we create opportunities for personal growth, community connection, and a deep pride in our shared heritage.

Supporting Families and the Community

At SIM, we understand the importance of community and offer a Directory of Community Resources to help families access viral support services. Whether for children, youth or parents, our resources are designed to connect families with the tools they need to thrive and build strong, healthy relationships. We are proud to be a part of the Sheshatshiu community, where culture, care and connection come together to nurture the future of our children and youth.

Cultural Guidance and Storytelling

We honor the essential role of Elders in our community. Elders contribute to our cultural programming by guiding children and youth in meaningful activities such as storytelling, which fosters a deep connection to Innu culture. Through their wisdom, Elders help nurture an understanding of tradition, identity and belonging, enriching the lives of the young people in our care. We foster a supportive, well-rounded envirnoment where every child and youth can grow, learn and connect with their culture and community.
