The Innu Care Approach to Child and Youth Care (ICA-CYC) A program designed to help child and youth care workers develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to meet the provincially legislated standards for child and youth care while simultaneously attempting to preserve, rather than replace, traditional Innu knowledge about child-rearing. This training incorporates knowledge of respected community members, Elders, and the training participants themselves with North American and European child and youth care theories and traditions.
The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training program for child and youth care staff teaches staff how to help children learn constructive ways to handle crisis. The ability of the entire organization to respond effectively to children and young people in crisis situations is critical in establishing not only a safe environment, but also one that promotes growth and development. The skills, knowledge, and professional judgment of staff in responding to crises are critical factors in helping young people learn constructive and adaptive ways to deal with frustration, failure, anger, rejection, hurt, and depression.
First Aid/CPR Lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
CYC Documentation Accurate documentation and reporting, including mandated reporting responsibilities, why we report, who we are reporting to, and how reports contribute to the overall development of programs. CYCW know how to complete and use the documentation in the home.
