Itapatan | Purpose

At SIM, our purpose is to show our children love, guide them in embracing Innu culture, and connect them to the Innu way of life, all on the land of our ancestors.

We are dedicated to leading the way in healing intergenerational trauma, offering a nurturing care approach rooted in the strength and wisdom of Innu cultural values, Through this, we strive to empower our youth and community to grow, heal and thrive together.

  • Ishpitentamun - Respect Through words and actions, we show respect to everyone around us, our elders, co-workers, children, our land, culture, and ourselves. 

  • Kuishku - Integrity We show up! We do the right thing, we are there for our children, youth and each other.

  • Innu aitun - Culture We value Innu culture, stories from our elders through food and cooking together, language, clothing, hunting animals, hunting and berry picking. 

  • Matinueu - Sharing We share our food, our time and space and our stories.

  • Innu assi - Community We are stronger when we are close to our community, our familes, elders, crafters, and others who also work with families, children and youth.

  • Nuture – Shatshitun We nurture our children and youth through meals together, spending time together, taking them in the country, and showing them the way.
